History tour 15th, Packsaddle Gymkhana, and more

Good morning all,

Firstly a big thanks to those who welcomed me back, It’s good to be back.

Things have been busy lately, we were lucky enough to meet with ‘Destination Country and Outback’ last week. Carl and Andrew are doing a great job in getting our tourists to venture over ‘the stony hill’. Which is essential, but as I’ve been saying now since god had the measles, it is our job in all our outback towns to talk to these people, make them feel welcome and special, they don’t worry about “Apps” they just want to have a yarn.

Anyway, we have quite a bit coming up out here, Starting with the Silver City Cinema in Broken Hill showing movies on the 9th. April, and they are free, so if your about drop in. You can’t be in 2 places at once, but try and slip out to Topar for their Campdraft on the 9th. and 10th.

Also, back in The Hill is a Cemetery Tour of their historic cemetery on the 15th. You have to ring 80803575 to book for that.

Of course that starts Easter off, so if you duck In to the Visitor Info. Centre, still in the Hill, and ask about the Heritage Tours that Patrick and his team have on offer, and understand their great city.

No hope of doing all these, however, the

is on over Easter, just up the Silver City highway. There is absolutely heaps on in Bourke over the easter period including the Easter Festival Exhibition. And down to Wentworth, and you have the Easter Regatta and Garage sales! When is the last time you did something for the first time!! Sorry, back on track.

As soon as you get over the Easter rush, you have the “Mundi Mundi Bash” on the 21st. to 23rd. just out of Broken Hill. Don’t unhook the van though as you have to head to White Cliffs for their big weekend on the 23rd. and 24th. so you may as well stay there for Anzac Day. You’ll be too tired to move.

Now the May calendar is a bit crammed too.

You have the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow, (wow!) on at the Civic Centre in Broken Hill on the 5th. May, have to book.

The White Cliffs Arts and Crafts Festival 13-22nd. May, Cobar Show the 20/21st. May. Cobar Races on the 28th. May. But then you have to be back in Broken Hill for the first big “Agfair” in 3 years. God knows how you’re going to do it all!

However when you are passing through our little Wilcannia, please drop in for a coffee or a meal, or better still stop over night at our Van Parks or Motels, Have a yarn, check out our history. By the way, had great feed back from a traveller today on “Neila Gaari”, well done Greg and Lily.

Have a good trip wherever you are going and if you find a road closed, please check with the relevant Council and get advice, it may not be closed the full length.

Take care now, say g’day to a stranger and you have a new friend.

See you in 2 weeks, Bill Elliott. WCTA.
