Cold, most roads open, Lightening Ridge Opal and Gem Festival

Good morning all.

It can’t possibly get much colder, but the bright side is, the roads are mostly all open and no rain forecast for a while.

Hope you all had an enjoyable July, nearly gone now and a few events to look forward to coming up.

First up is the return of the Lightening Ridge Opal and Gem Festival. It starts on Wednesday and runs on till next Saturday, rounding off with the Opal Ball on Saturday night. A big few days up there if you can make it. Now the next Saturday, the 5th. August is the Nyngan Ag. Expo. It’s only 1 day but there’s a heap packed into that Saturday to see, always a big day.

Probably poke across to Cobar after that and take a leisurely trip across to Louth and you will be in time for the famous Louth Races on the 12th. and the festivities leading up to the day. Shindy’s Inn will be rocking and new accommodation facilities now available.

Next on the list is the enormous Mundi Mundi Bash. This is happening from the 17th. to Saturday 19th. Tickets are sold out but day passes are still available I believe. Duck into the Visitors Centre in Broken Hill and Patrick and his band of helpers will get you in.

What you need to do is make it back to Broken Hill the next day, Sunday 20th., and catch up with the Bash Fringe Markets, free entry at the Patten St. Park.

If you are heading to The Bash, try and make it to the Glen Hope Camp area near Cobar, as Maree is having camp oven cooking and live music there on the 11th and 12th. on your way to the Bash, a great couple of days.

Of course you can always go to the Whiskey Festival in Tasmania, 1st week in August! Yes I know, distance is a problem.

Anyway have a great couple of weeks and come and see us in our little towns, and say g’day to the next stranger you see tomorrow. It’s the first day of the rest of your life remember. Take care, Bill Elliott. WCTA.
