Pooncarie Field Day, Cobar Show, White Cliffs Music Festival

Hello All,

I hope all centres had a really good group for their Anzac services. We certainly did here in Wilcannia, and the rain came in about 15 minutes TOO early! Not to worry we gathered up the left over sandwiches!

Hope the bits of rain didn’t hinder the activities planned at some towns. Really not a lot about anywhere, unfortunately of course.

Things have been quite hectic here this last week, and I’m not aware of a lot of activity coming up next weekend. We do have the Pooncarie Field Day on though, this is happening next Saturday, 3rd. So if you are anywhere in that area it’s a must. Those people down there will look after you.

However, if you are in the Nyngan or Cobar area in a week or two, then there’s the Cobar Show coming up on the 8th. and 9th. and I believe the Cobar Races also on the 9th. Then you can move on to Nyngan for their annual Show and enjoy that.

A little down the track is the White Cliffs Music Festival, May 15th. to 17th. More about that though, as I may be able to find a programme for you as we get closer.

Anzac Day, Nyngan, White Cliffs, Tilpa

Hello all,

Well, Anzac Day is upon us. I thought I would concentrate on the activities going on next weekend, so that wherever you may find yourself there will be something for you to attend.

A few of the activities around our far west area, and I’m sure you will forgive me for starting at home!

Here in Wilcannia, we will have our usual Dawn Service, and again we will have Mick Batchelor with his “Light Horse Mounted Troops” as the sun is rising. Followed by breakfast at the Courthouse Cafe along with “Rum Rations”.  Procession from the Post Office at 11AM to the memorial, including ex-Vietnam troops on motorbikes from Rockhampton. Guest Speaker will be Burndoo Stn. born Denis Connell, ex No.2 Squadron RAAF. Light lunch to follow and a catch up in the Park.

Down in Ivanhoe, they’re having a dusk Service on the Friday night. Then a Dawn Service Saturday morning, this followed by the 11AM service and no doubt a catch up session at the RSL Club to whittle away the rest  of the day.

Now up at Tilpa, they are having a Dawn service also. This will be followed by the 11 o’clock Service, a luncheon gathering and activities throughout the afternoon to lead on to an evening meal. All as usual are welcome.

Up at White Cliffs, it’s a big weekend. Starting with the 11 AM Service, followed by lunch at the Pub. You have to be finished by 2 PM as the Rodeo starts then! The White Cliffs Gymkhana will entertain you all then through to Sunday afternoon.

Nyngan, now they have their usual Anzac Service, but they also have their Anzac Picnic Races as well. Big day there.

CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA DAY 2015

The usual group gathered at Reconciliation Park on Sunday 29th March to give the somewhat neglected area a bit of attention.

Our youngest participant was Harrison Cain, who thought the street should not just be litter free but gravel free as well, while a couple of our well known senior citizens were true to form and used a fire stick to get rid of large piles of sticks and leaves.

By midday the length of Ross Street had been picked free of litter, the park was litter free, trip hazards around the tables removed, trees pruned, grass mowed and trimmed and a leaky tap repaired.

Booligal "Cattle Drive", Warrawong happy hour around the campfire, Anzac Services

Hello All,

Well, how did our weekend activities go? Chris and I went out to the Topar Gymkhana, record number of competitors, don’t quote me but I think someone said 600!! From 3 States, how good is that. All had a great time. Wonder how the Booligal Sheep Races turned out? A success no doubt with ‘the Mcleans’ at the wheel.

Now speaking of Booligal, did I tell you that Alllison advises that the “Cattle Drive” up the Long Paddock has had to be postponed. The stock route is closed (too dry} and will be held now on the 9th. 10th. Oct. But more about that as the time comes.

Bourke have hit their straps for the winter season, and Andrew and Sarah have actually started their “Poetry on a Plate” (last night). I’m pretty sure they can cater for you all on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday nights. And you really shouldn’t miss out.

Meanwhile back here at home, the Warrawong Caravan Park is mine host for happy hour most nights now round the campfire. Tales to be told and laughs to be had. Or you can dine out with Richard at the Golf Club, courtesy bus provided.

Haven’t quite got all the times for Anzac Services throughout our area yet, but will have all that next Monday for you. However, if you are heading South Aus. Wise, then the Yunta Picnic races are on on Anzac Day 25th.

If you are into music, then the Hunter Valley Music Festival is nearly over, have to hurry.

Booligal Sheep Races, Topar Gymkhana

Hello everyone,

Well what a great weekend! Actually, on our pad it was, and I hope all other venues were the same. We had big numbers go through our Driver Reviver here in town heaps of really nice people. Warrawong Caravan Park was packed each night, and I hope Sunset Strip, Hay, Nyngan, Bourke, etc. etc. all were a great success. The weather was certainly in our favour.
