Heavy rain, Pooncarie Show, White Cliffs Music Festival and more

Hello all,

Wilcannia has been the hottest town in the state countless times, but I’ve never before known us to top the state with RAINFALL!! Even made the Land newspaper, 63 mm. In one night, wow.

And speaking of the Land, did you see young Jack Siemer on the cover page, well done Tennille. What a fantastic rain for those who were under it, and we hope it will level out in the next week or two, as Broken Hill area is still waiting.

White Cliffs have had their week end and no doubt went well. Anzac Day all done and dusted and now we look towards May for the next round of activities.

By the way, we are in dire need of an energetic couple who would like to open up a coffee shop here in Wilcannia. We had 2 and were totally spoilt, and now we have none. A very lucrative business for the right persons.

May starts off with the Pooncarie Show next Saturday if you can make it. Actually we are having our “Clean up Aust. Day”, (too hot in March) next Saturday also, all are welcome.

Of course the next Sunday is Mothers Day, remember to take the coffee to the bedroom, oh well!. Then on the 18th./19th. the annual Topar Gymkhana is happening and all are welcome. By the way, a bit of trivia, Topar Hotel has the cheapest fuel price that I’ve seen in the western area, 142 cents unleaded.

Also on that weekend, 17th. to 19th. is the White Cliffs Music Festival. It just hasn’t stopped at White Cliffs lately.

Don’t forget you have to fit in a vote for your favourite politician on that Saturday too. You may have noticed that on TV lately. Now just so you know, there is no interstate voting available in Wilcannia. And will let you know next week if available in Broken Hill. You can at the Sydney Town Hall though!

Then you all have to zoom on down to Menindee, the willing helpers down there are having “Dancing on the Darling” over the 25th./26th. A really big event, a couple of bands me thinks, free camping and heaps of extras.

So there you are for another week, line up your next week or two and hope to see you on your way through.  Cheers for now,  Bill Elliott.   WCTA.
