Cobar Festival of the Miner’s Ghost, Rock, Rust, Stars and Dust

Hello to you all,

It seems to be getting to that time of the year when events are tapering off. And as usual, the weather is predictably unpredictable.

There is some happenings though, and first on the list is the “Cobar Festival of the Miner’s Ghost”. Now it starts Tuesday and goes right through the week with heaps of things happening right through, with a big weekend next weekend. Be there if you’re anywhere about.

If you’re further out west then you can check out the Rural Women’s Gathering in Broken Hill on the 28/30th. “Rock, Rust, Stars and Dust” is the theme, it’s going to be a big event for the city. And of course while there you must head out to Silverton, check out Peter and Patsy, tell ‘em I said Hi! Stop in at the brand new “Tri State Safari” Centre (old Mobil Servo) in Argent St. Have a cuppa say hi and enjoy. Incidentally, the new premises is being opened next Friday, see you there.

You can make your way down to Wentworth when you feel like it, ‘cause there’s river cruises happening there every Sunday lunch time and every Wednesday a twilight cruise. How good would that be with the river up so high.

Don’t forget the Melbourne Cup coming up. There are Calcutta’s running in Ivanhoe and Menindee if you like a flutter. Of course if you are in the Cobar, Nyngan or Bourke area, then all you have to do is drop into the ‘Information Centres’ in those places and the fantastic staff will have a few great days planned for you in no time. If you’re coming through our little town then stop in for a coffee at our coffee shops, Julie is back in business again.

So, as usual have a great week, have fun and stop and smell the flowers. Life is too short to be hassled.

Till next week, drive carefully and cheers, Bill Elliott.  Wilcannia Tourism Association.
