To show the towns commitment the Hospital Auxiliary offered to auspice the raising of $20,000 to contribute to the purchase of digital x ray equipment. The NSW State Government agreed to this offer.

Early funds were raised through catering, raffles, street stalls and $2 Lucky Number projects. All these were wholeheartedly supported by the town’s residents, business’s and government agencies.

By December 2011 there was over $15,500 invested in the fund. The last fundraising project was a 31 draw raffle which was drawn last Friday night at the Wilcannia Golf Club. The raffle raised over $6,200, bringing the total in the fund to $22,031.74.

The cheque for $20,000 will be presented to Far West Local Health District Chief Executive, Stuart Riley on the 22nd May at the Wilcannia Health Service.

Chair of the Broken Hill District Health Board Dr. Flecknoe-Brown said on ABC Broken Hill radio yesterday that he sees this equipment saving both patients and the Royal flying Doctor Service a large amount of money in the coming years.
