Pooncarie Cup Meeting, 5 Rivers Celebrations and more

Good morning all,

Unfortunately you all have no hope of attending all that’s on in the next few weeks! Things are really ramping up!

First up is “The Sapphires” performing at the Civic Centre in Broken Hill on Tuesday night, can you make it?? If you do then pop round to the Visitors Centre to see what else is on in the “Hill”. And thanks heaps for your kind words Patrick, you and yours are doing just as good a job.

If you’re a horse lover then rush down to Pooncarie, they will treat you as royalty for their big “Pooncarie Cup Meeting” on Saturday. Then you can drop in to “Bindara” on the Darling for the night and head for Ivanhoe, the quickest possible way. You see, Allan and Mark and their helpers have one helliva day on for everyone on Sunday the 6th. They will have the biggest collection of old and vintage cars, trucks, tractors, you name it, if it’s old  it will be there! I’m not game to go, I might be put on display! Please support this if you can. These boys have gone all out.

This is hard for me, ‘cause the Tibooburra community are having a “Gymkhana and Bikekhana” on that very same weekend! Where ever you go have a ball.

Once you get over all that, Balranald is the place to be the next week end. 11th. to 13th. is the “5  Rivers Celebrations “ at the little town, it’s over 3 days so fun for all. However, you’ll have to choose again! ‘cause that same weekend the 12th. is the “Fort Courage Fishing Competition” down at Wentworth. Actually there’s heaps going on down round Wentworth so just drop in to the lovely ladies at the VIC, they’ll send you all sorts of places!

Are you confused? Don’t worry, just poke in to the Broken hill Civic Centre, Saturday 12th. and enjoy Fiona O’loughlin Comedian, have a laugh.

Enough for that neck of the woods, let’s go up to  Brewarrina, because they have their “Quickshear” competition happening on the 19th.  and there’s heaps more going on up there to fill in the weekend as well. Come back through Bourke, there’s an idea! You’ll fill in days there. You can then toodle down to Cobar, but make sure you’re there from the 25th. to the 27th. for the “Cobar Miners ghost Festival”. I don’t know, there’s just so much going on, decisions, decisions!

On the home front, if you are planning Wilcannia on Tuesday, (tomorrow), Victory Park Caravan Park is not available tomorrow night. Duck down the road to Warrawong, Lilly and Stewart will look after you. While you’re here, duck into De at the Wilcannia Motel and swap a book or 2. She’d love to see you. Also as I said, our toilets are under repair in the main Street so slip up to the hospital or on the highway going to the Hill.

How’s that for activities? Whatever you choose, enjoy yourselves. Meet a friend, have a laugh. Till next week, take care.  Cheers, Bill Elliott.   WCTA.

“I’ll never forget how happy I was when I saw my missus walking down the aisle towards me. My heart was beating fast and the excitement was unbearable. It seemed to take an age but eventually there she was, standing beside me. I gave her a loving smile and said. ‘Get the trolley over there love, they’re doing 3 cartons of beer for the price of 2’.”
