Lightning Ridge Opal and Gem Fest, and more

Good morning all,

Do you know what the favourite weather forecast used to be on the ABC radio years ago? “fine in the west”. Not much has changed has it??

Anyway, hope the Condo Tattoo and the Wentworth Junction Rally went well.

If you happen to be in Cobar next Saturday, go out to the CSA mine for their Open Day, you’ll enjoy it, not sure where to go, then call at the Cobar Museum, lovely people there they’ll help you.

Now you’re that close toodle up to the Lightning Ridge Opal and Gem Fest, it’s on the 27/30th. see a real opal town.

That brings us to August. By the way, did you know that tomorrow is the actual anniversary of the death of Jane Austin, 200 years ago. You must have studied one of her works at school. No?.

First up in August is the Nyngan Ag. Expo on the 5th. the Nyngan folk will welcome you, and be sure to drop into the Railway Museum, just lovely girls there.

Haven’t heard much from Bourke lately, but Hully would be still reciting poetry and cooking camp oven meals, still be river cruises etc.

Now that same week end the 5/6th. is the big Landcare Forum in Broken Hill. Can’t be at both, you’ll work it out. Moving on is another double header. Cobar Picnic Races on the 26th. Aug. And the White Cliffs Gem Festival and Car Boot sale, 26/27th. And moving right on ahead is one hell of a week end in Broken Hill with  the Broken Heel Festival on the 8/9/10th. Sept. I know it’s a bit off yet but you have to plan for these things, can’t miss out. Particularly with the opportunity to duck out to the Silverton Pub.

If you’re passing through our little town, Wilcannia. Please stop off for a yarn, make use of our Caravan Dump Site, we’re an RV Friendly Town now. Drop your van off at Warrawong, do a trip or two and enjoy your 4th. night free! Don’t forget our famous Chinese cook Richard, he’s a legend.

Don’t forget our fantastic radio stations to look after you and keep you entertained. You know ‘em, 999, 1584, 585, FM 103.1, but of course the best way to learn is to stop in each town, and  yarn to a friend you haven’t met yet. That’s what we do in the outback.

Coming to you from Mildura this morning, have a great week, till next round, cheers Bill Elliott. Wilcannia Tourism Association.
