• Planning versus doing-how committees need to plan their activities and strategies

but have to have processes in place to make them happen

• Determining the Committee’s objectives and purpose

• Ensuring that the committee operates efficiently

• Ensuring the committee maintains accountability-doing what you say you are goingto do and in the right way!

• Selecting, supporting and assessing staff

• Ensuring the committee has enough money to do their job

• How to keep an eye on the money!

• Monitoring the programs and services that the committee is delivering

• Getting and keeping a good public profile

• Recruiting and developing committee members and assess the committee’s

This session covers the key issues for non-profit committee members in taking responsibility for the financial resources of the organisation they serve.

It explores both personal and technical issues involved in financial management in an informative and engaging manner.

Topics include

• Asking “rude questions” and being well informed

• Getting technical-financial responsibilities and procedures such as setting financial policies, recording and reporting systems

• Financial monitoring and management – understanding financial statements and key terms, reports for non-accountants and a checklist for evaluating your committee’s financial practices.

• The importance of developing a budget and making sure you have enough money now and for the future
