Flowers for miles, Wentworth Country Music, Menindee Fishing Comp, and more

Hello  everyone,

Another half inch of rain yesterday afternoon, almost a daily occurrence isn’t it? Feed for miles, wildflowers where we’ve never seen them before. Have you seen any Sturt desert Peas yet? They’re definitely about. Don’t try to drive over to them though, the country would bog an Army Duck at the moment.

Hope the two big items at White Cliffs and Ivanhoe went well over the weekend. Roads could have been a problem at Ivanhoe.

Coming up, the Wentworth Country Music extravaganza is in full swing so if you’re about, spare an hour or two.

If you’re heading to Broken Hill, then the Rural Women’s gathering is on next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Of course when you are there you must drop in and see the staff at the Visitors Information Centre and they will have a heap of things you can do for a week or more.

Remember the Menindee Fishing Comp. it was postponed, well it’s on for sure now on the 22-23rd. October. And if you’re planning on going down Nymagee way, then the Nymagee Flower Show is being held on the 10th. October, should imagine it will be a great day too.

Whitecliffs Underground Art Festival 2016

Date & Time:
Friday, September 23, 2016 - 6:00pm to Sunday, September 25, 2016 - 6:00pm

The White Cliffs Underground Arts Festival will be under the spot light this year with ABC Sydney attending the festival to film people for an episode of Backroads. According event organizer, Cree Marshall, they are interested in seeing how a tiny outback town gears up for an event like the Under Ground Arts Festival and also interested in seeing what sort of support it gets, not just locally but from surrounding Stations and neighboring communities like Broken Hill, Wilcannia, Menindee and Ivanhoe.

More rain, Ivanhoe Rodeo and Gymkhana, lots more

Hello all,

Last week we said goodbye to a mate who touched the heart of everyone he came in touch with, rest in peace Macca.

It seems rain is the order of the week, not only the day. So, all dirt roads are off limits once again, more book reading time again. And a hi to my good friends down in the south east, (SA). Had no idea my “trivia” went that far!

A lot happening next week end, in fact you have no hope of attending the lot, too many Km’s between them. We start with the Ivanhoe Rodeo and Gymkhana, it’s on next Saturday and Sunday, lets hope the Cobb Highway is open. On the very same time is the White Cliffs “Underground Art Festival” but it takes in Friday as well, a 3 day extravaganza up there at “The Cliffs”. Now would you believe, down at Wentworth, the Wentworth Country Music celebrations commence on the 23rd. too.

Of course there is heaps of other great things to do in these towns as well, so whichever one you end up at make sure you take everything in, don’t miss a trick.,

Once you get over next weekend, you can set your sights for 2 events in The Hill. “Environment of Change” is a one day Seminar 24th., and sounds interesting (Flyer attached). And the  “Rural Women’s Gathering”  taking place in Broken Hill the following week of the 28-30th. and it’s theme is “Rock, Rust. Stars and Dust”. Going to be a big event in The Hill, and of course there’s just heaps and heaps of other things to do and see while you’re in the area.

If you think you missed the Menindee “Fishing Comp” you haven’t. It was postponed and is now the 22-23rd. October, and you can attend the Cabaret to celebrate 40 years of the Yabbies Football Club, fun night out there even if you don’t catch a fish!

Incidentally, if you happen to be at fantastic “Warrawong Caravan Park on Thursday, duck over to St. Therese’s School (over the road) and have some fun at their Annual Fete, Thursday morning.

More rain, Ivanhoe Annual Gymkhana, Nymagee Flower Show

Hello everyone,

Well, we’ll pretend it’s tomorrow morning this time!  More rain and more coming, was told this morning the country is a picture across the Nullarbor and right through to Newcastle. And jenny said to tell you all it’s an absolute picture up on Led napper Nature Reserve near Bourke. Sturts Desert Pea between here and Broken Hill, and around Dry lake (White Cliffs road). In fact the wildflowers are fantastic everywhere.

Please be very careful, although roads are open you don’t have to go off very far in lots of places to get bogged down to the axles. Then you do have to phone a friend!

Now what’s on. We have the Mt. Gipps Station Ram Sale next Friday just north of Broken Hill, for anyone interested. Then you can head back to Silverton for “Arias in the outback” with Brad Cooper at the Silverton Pub on the 17th. where Peter and Patsy will look after you. In fact if you went from the ram sale and ducked out to Menindee you could see the Rugby League Knock Out Carnival on Saturday and still make it to the Silverton Pub by 8 PM.

You will need Sunday to get over all that by poking round the sights of Broken Hill, Visitors Information Centre, a coffee or two, then Monday morning toodle down to Mick and Jo at Tri State Safari’s, they have heaps of tours and one to suit you. If not they’ll make one up for you.

You have to leave the Hill then and head for Ivanhoe or White Cliffs. Ivanhoe are having their Annual Gymkhana and Rodeo on the 24-25th. There’ll be a crowd there and lots of fun. Only drawback will be wet roads!! In such case, you will get all the fun you need at White Cliffs, (bitumen road!), the “Underground Art Festival” is on the 23-25th.

Or,  you can head down to Wentworth, because the big Country Music festival starts on the 23rd. and just keeps going. There’s heaps more on down there too so ask the girls at the V.I.C. and have a ball.
