Best New Business Award, Pooncarie Gun Club’s Xmas Shoot and more

Good morning to you all,

I think this will be our last round up as Santa is getting close now and we must make way!

Accolades are due in our area to Rob Dyson at White Cliffs. Rob took out the Best New Business Award, at the Far West Awards in Broken Hill last week. Well done Rod and well deserved.

Speaking of “The Cliffs”, there’s heaps of really nice Xmas gifts to be had up there from their little shops around and Craft is still happening at The Red Earth Cafe, so don’t be afraid to pop up and

poke around. Rob will take you. By the way, the Underground Motel is closed till 1st. April too. Will open bigger and better than ever.

Now here’s what happening, see how you handle it. Here in Wilcannia is a Photographic Exhibition on our old Lift span bridge. It’s an initiative of one of our dedicated school teachers highlighting photos by our school kids. It’s happening Wednesday evening with a BBQ and heaps of fun behind the Post Office at the bridge, poster attached.

Also here in our little town on Friday the 13th. is Christmas Festivities and Fire works and heaps more at Burke Oval from 5 to 9 PM and all are welcome. And would you believe we also have “Best and Less” from Broken Hill with a ‘pop up’ shop here in town on the 12th.and 13th. It’s all happening.

Moving on  down south now we have the Pooncarie Gun Club’s Xmas Shoot next Saturday. You don’t have to shoot a gun to have fun on the day. And then staying down in that neck of the woods, you can drop in to Wentworth and join the community in their Christmas Carols on the 15th. You will have to choose though, ‘cause Broken Hill are having their “Carols by Candlelight” on the very same night!.

I’m running out of ideas for you now, so have not only a great week but a fantastic Christmas period and holiday break, ensure it’s a safe one, and spare a thought for the many fire fighters who are doing a great service to communities all over the state and beyond, and the town and pastoral businesses who are all doing it hard in this unending drought. Stop in each town and say hi to a stranger, I can almost guarantee they will appreciate it.

Thanks for all your input through the year, and let’s do even better next year. I had a whisper that my ‘little funny’ last week was a bit ‘tricky’. I’ll do better!

Have a great Xmas and all the very best to you all. Cheers Bill Elliott, from the Wilcannia community.
