Weather, ivanhoe centre of things, and more

Hello all,

I’ll have another go at the weather! Could be a bit of a shower on Tuesday, otherwise all good for the week.

The 2 big events this weekend went off really well I believe. Had reports from both Louth Races and the Nyngan Ag-Expo, jolly good shows.

Ivanhoe is the centre of attraction again next week too. The Ivanhoe Quick Shear is next week’s attraction, at the RSL Club.

Tri State Safari’s in Broken Hill also have some tour specials on the go, with discounted tours to Mootwingee tomorrow (you’ve probably missed it!), but another one Tuesday, as well as a Loop Tour. I think you’d have to be quick for that though.

Had a few phone calls checking if Sturts Desert Pea is about at all. Well we went for a drive today, (Sunday) and sure enough they are about 3 or 4 inches high out around Dry Lake. For those enthusiasts that use “Navmans” or the like, there’s a great patch at Lat. South 31.3803, and long. East 143.1933. See how good you are!

They won’t be flowering till another few weeks though me thinks.

Oh, by the way, there’s a “Highway to Hell challenge” on starting in Hay on the 20th. to celebrate old Mr. Baird’s service to the Ivanhoe community. $10- entry fee and a load of fun, Hay to Ivanhoe.

Looking ahead now we have the White Cliffs “Underground Art Festival” coming up on the 23-25th. September, and the Ivanhoe Rodeo, coming up also on the 24th. Sept.

Here in our little town we have the “Boomerangs” Ball on next Saturday night, celebrating a really successful year of football.

We also have, in the great city of Broken Hill, the “Broken Heel Festival, on 9-10-11th. Sept. And the “Fringe Festival” from 26th. through to the 4th. Sept.

So, with all that in mind, enjoy your week, if you’re near the Dry Lake road get you GPS out and check out the flowers, and take care till I catch up with you all next week. Wilcannia website is getting a facelift very soon so keep an eye on it,  wilcanniatourism.com.au  . We have 7 new businesses now for you to choose from as well as our tried and tested ones.

Cheers Bill Elliott.   Wilcannia Tourism Assoc.
