Driver reviver report, RFDS, Orange Wine Festival, stay on the bitumen

Hello all,

Last week I said, we’ve just had half an inch of rain, well guess what? Repeat performance! And more in Ivanhoe I believe. Enough wind here yesterday afternoon to blow a hen off her nest, but I can confidently say, don’t worry about cutting more fire wood. Progressing up to 30 degrees by next week end.

Now, my apologies to Fen and the Tibooburra gang, I missed mentioning your big week end, hope it was a big success, let’s know when you’re cranking up again, and my apologies for bringing the “Rural Women’s Gathering” forward so much last week! It’s actually on in Broken Hill on the 28-30th. October!! Thanks for the correction Jo, must be the wet weather!

Just finished our 3 day “Driver Reviver” caravan here in town, and a great success too. Well over 100 people stopped in for a coffee and a yarn, from all points of the country really. Great yarns and again, how small a world it is!! From a guy who has driven trains for 48 years to little Alice who was the greatest Kid.

Next I can find for you is the “RFDS Rowathon on the Darling” at Wentworth next Saturday. Go along and have a look and support a fantastic cause.

Then if you’re down in that “inside country” then the Orange Wine Festival is on from 14-30th. Heaps there to do and take in the National Field Days that Orange hosts while you’re in the area, there’s everything there for everyone.

Of course if you are out here in our neck of the woods, then you had better stick to the bitumen. That still gives you heaps to do. Craft at the Red Earth Cafe in White Cliffs every Friday at about 10 AM. Bitumen road. Menindee Fishing Comp. (postponed) now on the 22-23rd. plenty of water, plenty of fish! Nymagee still has it’s Flower Show on the 10th. Country hospitality there for sure. (bitumen again).

So, please be very careful if you venture off the ‘black strip’, the ground is very soft. Had a couple through today coming back from the Flinders Ranges, they said the wildflowers up there were unbelievable, why not take a look?

Have fun this week, if you’re coming through, stop off at Warrawong and smell the flowers in our little town, and you all take care now.

Cheers till next week,  Bill Elliott,  Wilcannia Tourist association.
