Check roads, recent weather news

Good morning all,

Very brief this morning as we are away from home at the moment.

The main item is please be careful on our roads, check on the Central Darling Shire website, (on our Tourism website) and be guided by the Shire Road report there. Rest assured all dirt roads are closed.

However, be assured that a “moderate flood warning” for Wilcannia, as on the Beaureu of Methodology website does NOT cut the Barrier highway in Wilcannia.

The Darling river has not broken it's banks at Wilcannia, it only floods to the east and will definitely not cut the highway in the forseeable future.

If there are severe thunderstorms between Wilcannia and Broken Hill, particularly between Topar and the Hill, some creeks will flood and cut the road for a few hours. This happened last week when 3 cars were stranded between 2 creeks, by the time rescue arrived the creeks were down and the cars on their way, please be sensible.

This is the case also east and west of Cobar. Creeks such as Yanda and Buckwaroon creeks can cut the road for a short period.

By the same token, there is far more flooding of the Darling round Tilpa and Louth, roads cut up that way.

As you would imagine, little going on in the outback at the moment, please continue to ring me  from our website if I can be of help.

Catch you in a fortnight, and please listen to our local radio stations for guidance, Bourke, 585. ABC, 999 and 1584.

Cheers, Bill Elliott. WCTA.
