June 2014

weather, Menindee and Darling River Art Gallery

Just a shame we can’t find out  how everything went over the week end. We DO know it was freeeezing everywhere! I’m sure all was good though, Topar, Menindee, Nyngan and beyond.

Would you believe next week end,  there’s a CWA fundraiser lunch at the White Cliffs Hotel on Saturday 5th. you’ll have a ball up there. Then on Sunday 6th. there’s a Music Festival at the Community hall in Wilcannia.  Maybe something up Bourke/Bre. Way too, let’s know guys.

strange weather, BBQ, Topar and Menindee Art Exhibition

Really strange weather isn’t it? 15 degrees here, cloudy, windy, not flying weather. A big thanks to Donna at Nyngan and John in Cobar for the brochures, good on you both. Speaking of that, we need some “Outback Beds” pads please, whoever has them. Jim has moved on to greater things now and Chris and I are taking Miss Barretts Coffee Shop back, so look forward to seeing you all. Should be reopened next Thursday.

Few things on in Menindee this week if you are travelling that way.

Cobb Highway funding, printing brochures

Good news, no fantastic news, had a ring from John Elliott on Friday, our representative on State Council of the National Party. It was announced 5 minutes before at the National Party Conference in Queanbeyan by Andrew Stoner that the Cobb Highway and the Silver City Highway will receive $50 million for the completion of both State highways! This will be announced tomorrow night in the State Budget. How good is that. We are very proud and grateful to John for his untiring work on seeking funding for the Cobb over the last 4 or 5 years particularly, and he did it.

Louth Field Day + Topar Camp Draft

Well, what an action filled week end! The Louth Field Day from all accounts went off really well on Saturday, good crowd and heaps of stands.

The Golf week end at Sunset Strip also attracted 28 players and was enjoyed by all there. And James McClure from Netallie has taken out the Wilcannia gift once again after winning the inaugural race last year.

A really good crowd was in attendance, with Trade Stalls and demonstrations, and the local girls, RFS, and SES keeping food and drinks up to all.

Rain, Louth Field Day, Driver Reviver

Wasn’t that really great rain, holds up the travellers for a day or two but the roads will dry out soon. I think all got a little bit this time.

It’s all happening along the river this time. Starting up at Louth, we have their big bi-annual Field Day next Saturday. Lots of trade stands and a great day guaranteed.

Then we duck down to Menindee. They have their Golf week end next week on the 6, 7, and 8th. night golf and all, over 3 days, lots of fun.

In between those 2 is the Wilcannia Field and Fun Day, on Sunday. We have the Wilcannia Gift foot race over 3 km. Wool bale rolling, hay bale rolling, Mog with her horses, and probably the best known name in the west in Pip Hudson with his sheep dogs. 13 Trade stalls and a photo competition.

Now Driver Reviver will be operating here in Wilcannia as well on next Saturday, Sunday and Monday if you need an espresso coffee, tea or hot chocolate as you pass by.
